Cast Anglers have been fishing the park for years and can show you some secrets
to catching more trout in this amazing environment.
Here's
a brief run down on some of these great waters:
Slough Creek is primarily a gentile meandering meadow stream with 3 major sections. Many of our anglers choose to fish the meadow near the trail head or hike the 15 minutes to the 1st meadow. Our more hardy hikers often choose the 45 minute hike and go to the 2nd meadow which is larger and a bit more secluded. Anglers wishing to go all the way to the 3rd meadow often take advantage of our horseback trips with Rockin' HK Outfitters. This 2 hour horse back ride is relaxing, scenic and saves our legs for wading the untouched stream looking for big Cutthroat trout.
Soda Butte and Lamar Rivers are freestone streams with good populations of Cutthroat and Rainbow trout. We typically fish these streams in late summer with terrestrials and then in the fall with Gray Drakes. Soda Butte is smaller and and has some great under cut banks where big trout gently rise to take your imitation. The Lamar River is a bit bigger but has numerous riffles and holes where the trout often lie in wait.
The Yellowstone River at Buffalo Ford is reminiscent of a big spring creek. It's proximity to Yellowstone Lake keeps the waters cooler and often produces complex hatches of several species hatching all at once. Fishing this area of Yellowstone National Park is a technical anglers delight.
Other popular streams include the Madison River and the Fire Hole
River. Both of these streams can produce good fishing it all depends
on your timing - which is why we are here to help you find the best
possible fishing.
